Find a Mentor, Be a Mentor

by Ildar Akhmetov

There is a pyramid of mentorship:

  1. Someone out there can be a great mentor for you
  2. YOU can be a great mentor for someone else

Don't think that anyone who is older, or has more experience, automatically qualifies as a mentor. Think about yourself in 10 or 20 years from now -- think about where you would like to be. Your mentor is someone who is already there. They might not have a detailed step by step guide for you to get there, but they can tell you how they did.

Now, if you can learn from your mentor, someone out there can learn from you. Think about where you are now. You may think that it's not much -- it's always hard for us to appreciate the present moment. But think back: where were you a few years ago? Maybe you were dreaming of being exactly where you are now. And you made it.

Now, there is someone else out there with a dream. And you can guide them.
